ADHD in teenagers looks like this.
Teenagers with ADHD often struggle with focus, organisation and impulse control at exactly the point where school asks most of them. It can look like:
- Assignments started late, left unfinished or forgotten entirely.
- Instructions that do not stick, and details missed in class.
- Forgetfulness with books, deadlines and belongings.
- Emotional dysregulation: frustration and low mood out of proportion to the trigger.
- Restlessness and impulsivity that strain friendships and family life.
With early identification and the right supports, teenagers with ADHD do well. An assessment gives the family, the school and the young person a clear picture to work from.

For teenagers aged 16 and 17, with a parent or guardian
One all-inclusive fee covers four stages: validated rating scales from three settings, a consultant psychiatrist interview with the teenager and parent, an objective computerised test, and a results consultation with treatment plan. A written report goes to you and your GP.
Conners 4 questionnaires
Online · Teenager, parent and teacher
Validated rating scales completed independently by the teenager, a parent and a teacher, covering inattention, hyperactivity-impulsivity and executive function at home and at school.
Clinical interview with the consultant psychiatrist
75 minutes · Secure video call
DSM-5 symptom assessment, developmental history and functional impact with Dr Raaj, involving both the teenager and a parent. Collateral history from parents confirms symptom onset before age 12 and rules out other explanations.
QbCheck objective test
30 minutes · At home on a computer
A computerised continuous performance test measuring attention, impulsivity and activity level. We send a voucher code; the teenager completes it at home and we analyse the results as objective data alongside the interview and questionnaires.
Results consultation and report
30 minutes · Secure video call
All results reviewed together and a treatment plan agreed around the teenager's needs and strengths. A detailed written report with findings, diagnosis and recommendations follows, to you and your GP.
A parent or guardian books, attends stage 2 and stage 4 and consents to treatment alongside the teenager. Recognised by Laya Healthcare and VHI, subject to your plan; itemised receipt with the IMC registration number issued.
Medication, with both consents.
Medication is only one option and is started only with the consent of both the teenager and a parent. If it is recommended:
- GP cardiovascular check first: blood pressure, heart rate, height and weight, and an ECG if there is a personal or family history of heart conditions.
- Prescription by Secure HealthMail to your GP or local pharmacy for collection.
- Titration follow-ups with Dr Raaj while the dose settles: 20 minutes for €150 or 30 minutes for €200.
Once stable, reviews continue regularly, typically every six months [CONFIRM: review interval], and a repeat prescription costs €40.
A report the school and the CAO can use.
Schools and exam bodies offer accommodations to students with a diagnosed ADHD: extra time, a quiet or separate exam room, scheduled breaks, assistive technology such as a laptop or speech-to-text, and clarified instructions. Our report gives them the evidence they need.
The consultant psychiatrist's report is also accepted for the Disability Access Route to Education (DARE), which lets students with ADHD apply for reduced-points places and reasonable accommodations in higher education institutions across Ireland.
The practical details.
- Insurance. Laya Healthcare and VHI recognise Dr Raaj. Cover depends on your plan, so check before booking.
- Receipts and tax relief. An itemised receipt with the IMC number for your insurer and for 20 percent tax relief on medical expenses through Revenue.
- Payment. Card, Apple Pay, Revolut or bank transfer at booking. Klarna pay-in-3 instalments available.
- Cancellations. 48 hours' notice to change or cancel without charge.
- Hours. Monday to Friday 9am to 9pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am to 5pm, so appointments can sit outside school hours.
Does a parent have to be involved?
Yes. A parent or guardian books the assessment, completes the parent Conners 4 questionnaire, joins the clinical interview and the results consultation, and consents to any treatment together with the teenager.
What does the school need to do?
One teacher completes the online Conners 4 teacher questionnaire. Nothing else is required from the school, and the school is not told the outcome unless you choose to share the report.
Is the report accepted for DARE and exam accommodations?
Yes. The report is written by a consultant psychiatrist and is accepted for the DARE application. It also documents the diagnosis and recommendations schools use when arranging exam supports. All questions →
Care that continues after the diagnosis.
Existing patients book follow-ups with Dr Raaj by secure video: a 20-minute review for €150 or a 30-minute review for €200, for titration, symptom review and medication changes. Once stable, a repeat prescription is €40 and can cover up to three months, sent by Secure HealthMail to your GP or pharmacy.
