Comprehensive ADHD Assessment & Treatment for Teenagers (Age 16 to 18)
At Mindbridge Medical, we offer a specialized comprehensive ADHD assessment tailored for teenagers aged 16 to 18. Although 18 years old technically falls outside the traditional teenage years, many individuals at this age remain in education or training and face challenges similar to younger teens. Due to ongoing developmental, social, and experiential factors, the teenager assessment pathway remains most appropriate for this group rather than the adult ADHD assessment. This approach allows us to incorporate essential input from school environments to provide a more accurate and supportive evaluation suited to their unique context.
The Qb Test at Mindbridge Medical is a state-of-the-art, computer-based assessment that objectively measures attention, impulsivity, and activity levels—core areas affected by ADHD. Designed for convenience and accuracy, the test can be completed in the comfort of your own home using a voucher code provided by Mindbridge Medical. Advanced video and sensor technology track your movements and responses during standardized tasks, offering precise data on your focus, impulse control, and activity. This objective information uniquely complements clinical evaluations and questionnaires, ensuring Mindbridge Medical delivers a highly personalized and comprehensive ADHD diagnosis and treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.
Understanding ADHD in Teenagers
Teenagers with ADHD frequently face difficulties with focus, sustained attention, organization, and impulse control, all of which impact academic performance and social development. These challenges may present as struggles to complete assignments, follow instructions, forgetfulness, and emotional dysregulation, which can hinder learning progression. However, with early identification and tailored support, teenagers with ADHD can thrive academically and personally.
Exam Benefits and Educational Supports
Recognizing the specific needs of students with ADHD, educational institutions provide a range of accommodations to create equitable testing environments. These include:
Extra time allowances to complete exams, compensating for slower processing speed and focus challenges.
Quiet, distraction-reduced rooms or separate testing environments to enhance concentration.
Scheduled breaks to manage cognitive fatigue and sustain attention.
Use of assistive technology such as laptops or speech-to-text software, if required.
Clarification of exam instructions and additional verbal cues to ensure understanding.
Such accommodations help reduce stress and enable teenagers to perform to their full potential.
Disability Access Route to Education (DARE) Application
The ADHD assessment report completed by our consultant psychiatrist at Mindbridge Medical is accepted for the Disability Access Route to Education (DARE) application. This allows students diagnosed with ADHD through our pathway to apply for reduced points placements and reasonable accommodations in higher education institutions across Ireland. The DARE scheme facilitates access to the supports necessary to promote academic success and equal opportunity.
Your Assessment Process
Our structured assessment pathway includes four stages designed to provide a thorough and collaborative evaluation:
Stage 1:
Completion of Conners Questionnaires independently by the school teacher, parent(s), and the teenager, providing a wide-ranging perspective on symptoms and functioning across settings.
Stage 2: (75 minute)
A 75-minute ADHD assessment conducted via secure Zoom by our consultant psychiatrist, involving both the teenager and parent for comprehensive clinical evaluation.
Stage 3: (30 minute)
The Qb Test is a computer-based assessment measuring attention, impulsivity, and activity level using advanced video and sensor technology. The test will be completed by the client in their own home setting for maximum comfort and convenience. We provide a voucher code enabling the teenager to complete the Qb Test from their own computer, and we subsequently analyze the results to contribute objective data to the diagnostic process.
After Stage 3, if medication is recommended, you will be required to attend your GP for cardiovascular monitoring. This monitoring includes checking blood pressure, heart rate, height, weight, and an ECG if you or your family have a history of cardiac abnormalities or if you have a personal history of cardiac conditions.
Stage 4: (30 minute)
A 30-minute follow-up Zoom session to review all assessment results and collaboratively agree on a personalized treatment plan tailored to the teenager’s individual needs, strengths, and challenges. If medication is indicated and consent is obtained from both the teenager and parent, a prescription will be emailed directly to your local chemist for easy collection.
💰 Fee: €1200 for the complete assessment process, including all stages.
🔒 Secure telemedicine platform ensures privacy and convenience from your home.
A detailed written report summarizing the diagnostic findings, assessment results, and personalized recommendations will be provided following completion of the full assessment process.
