Psychological Services at MindBridge Medical
Driven by curiosity and built on purpose, Mindbridge Medical now offers specialised psychological services, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), to support adults experiencing ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD, and related difficulties. Our evidence-based therapy focuses on practical strategies to improve daily functioning, emotional wellbeing, and quality of life.
What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based psychological treatment that focuses on the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. CBT helps individuals identify unhelpful thinking patterns and develop practical skills to manage challenges more effectively.
CBT was originally developed by psychiatrist Dr. Aaron T. Beck in the 1960s and has since become one of the most widely researched and effective psychological treatments worldwide.
The core principle of CBT is that by changing unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours, individuals can improve emotional wellbeing, increase motivation, and develop healthier coping strategies.
How CBT Works
CBT is a collaborative and goal-oriented therapy. It focuses on:
Identifying unhelpful thought patterns
Understanding how thoughts affect emotions and behaviour
Developing practical coping strategies
Improving problem-solving and emotional regulation
Building sustainable habits and routines
CBT is practical, structured, and focused on real-life challenges.
How CBT Complements ADHD Medication
Medication can significantly improve attention, focus, and impulse control. However, medication alone does not teach the practical skills needed to manage daily responsibilities and behavioural patterns.
CBT complements medication by helping individuals:
Build effective routines and structure
Improve planning and organisation skills (Executive functioning skills)
Develop sustainable productivity strategies
Address negative self-beliefs and frustration
Improve emotional regulation
Strengthen long-term coping mechanisms
The combination of medication and CBT is considered the gold-standard treatment approach for adult ADHD.
CBT for Adult ADHD and Executive Functioning
CBT is highly effective in supporting adults with ADHD, particularly in addressing executive functioning difficulties such as:
Procrastination
Poor organisation
Time management difficulties
Emotional dysregulation
Low motivation
Difficulty initiating or completing tasks
Low self-confidence related to ADHD challenges
CBT helps individuals develop practical systems, routines, and strategies that improve daily functioning and long-term outcomes.
CBT for Anxiety, Depression, OCD, and Related Conditions
CBT is highly effective in treating a range of psychological conditions, including:
Generalised anxiety disorder
Social anxiety
Panic disorder
Depression
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Phobias
Stress and burnout
Low self-esteem
CBT helps individuals break cycles of negative thinking and avoidance, and develop healthier, more adaptive responses.
CBT empowers individuals with tools they can use independently throughout their lives.

How Therapy Typically Works
Sessions are 50 minutes. The initial sessions focus on assessment. This involves building a clear understanding of what is happening now, how the difficulties developed, relevant background factors, strengths, and what you would like to be different.
From there, therapy moves to collaborative formulation. In straightforward terms, this is a shared explanation of how the difficulty developed and what is keeping it going. It links patterns in thinking, emotion, behaviour, and relationships, and provides a clear roadmap for the work.
Intervention then focuses on practical, evidence based strategies tailored to that shared understanding. Progress is reviewed regularly to ensure therapy remains focused and useful. As therapy progresses, there is active planning for maintaining gains so that change is sustainable beyond sessions.
While there is structure, therapy is adapted to individual needs and pace. Matthew believes psychological work should be practical, transparent, and meaningful, rather than vague or overly abstract.
