Health insurance and paying for care.

Laya Healthcare and VHI recognise our consultant psychiatrist and psychologists. Here is what you can claim, how to claim it, the tax relief you are entitled to, and every way to pay.

Laya Healthcare

Laya Healthcare.

Three MindBridge clinicians are recognised providers for Laya Healthcare policyholders. What is reimbursed, and how much, depends on your scheme level.

  • Dr Shaeraine Raaj, Consultant Psychiatrist — ADHD assessment, general psychiatric assessment, treatment and medication management.
  • Dr Matthew MacGillivray, Clinical Psychologist — psychological therapy, including CBT.
  • Dr Jean McCabe, Senior Psychologist — adult autism assessment and psychological therapy, including CBT.

How to claim

  1. Check your cover. In the Laya app or online portal go to My Policies, then Check Consultant, and search for Shaeraine Raaj, Matthew MacGillivray or Jean McCabe.
  2. Book and pay. Choose your service and time at book an appointment. You pay MindBridge in full at booking.
  3. Keep the receipt. An itemised receipt is emailed to you automatically, with the clinician's IMC or PSI registration number and a description of the service.
  4. Submit the claim. In the Laya app go to Claims, Upload Receipt, choose Outpatient Mental Health, attach the PDF and submit.
  5. Track it. Follow progress under Claims History. Laya pays the reimbursement to your linked bank account or against future premiums.

Prescriptions are sent by Secure HealthMail to your GP or pharmacy, and your GP is kept informed for ongoing care.

VHI

VHI Healthcare.

VHI plans can cover MindBridge Medical ADHD assessments, follow-up appointments and psychotherapy sessions, subject to the details of your plan. Our clinicians meet VHI's reimbursement standards: the consultant psychiatrist is registered with the Irish Medical Council, and the psychologists are members of the Psychological Society of Ireland.

No pre-authorisation is needed. Book your appointment, pay in full at booking, and submit the receipt to VHI. The receipt is emailed automatically and includes the payment date and amount, your details, the clinician's professional registration details and a description of the service, which is the format VHI asks for.

Before you book, confirm with VHI:

  • any limit on the number of assessment or therapy sessions;
  • your annual mental health benefit maximum;
  • whether your plan asks for a GP referral.
Tax relief

20% back on what your insurer does not cover.

Revenue allows tax relief at 20% on qualifying medical expenses that were not reimbursed by an insurer or anyone else. If your plan covers part of a €950 assessment, you can claim relief on the remainder. If you have no cover, you can claim on the full fee.

Claim through Revenue myAccount (the online replacement for the Med 1 form): add the expense under Health Expenses for the tax year, keep the itemised receipt in case Revenue asks for it, and the relief is applied to your tax for that year.

Consultant psychiatrist fees qualify as practitioner fees. [CONFIRM: whether psychologist and addiction-counselling fees qualify for relief under Revenue's current rules; do not promise relief on those until confirmed.]

Payment

Every way to pay.

Payment is made securely online at booking, which confirms your appointment. We accept:

  • Credit and debit cards
  • Apple Pay
  • Revolut
  • Bank transfer
  • Klarna — pay in three interest-free instalments, or pay in 30 days

Paying with Klarna

Klarna splits the fee into three equal payments: the first at the time of booking, the remaining two collected automatically every 30 days. Pay on time and there is no interest. You can also choose to pay the full amount up to 30 days later, and Klarna offers longer financing for larger treatment packages with the terms shown upfront.

  1. Select your service on the booking page and go to checkout.
  2. Choose Klarna as the payment method and pick your instalment plan. Approval is decided in seconds; the initial soft search does not affect your credit score.
  3. Once Klarna approves the payment, MindBridge emails you a unique voucher code.
  4. Return to the booking page, enter the voucher code and choose your appointment date and time.

Klarna availability is subject to eligibility checks. Terms and conditions apply, and late payments may incur fees under Klarna's terms. Cancellations need 48 hours' notice; with less notice the appointment fee may be charged.

Common questions
Do you bill Laya or VHI directly?

No. You pay MindBridge at booking and claim from your insurer afterwards with the itemised receipt. There is no direct billing or pre-authorisation.

What is on the receipt?

The payment date and amount, your details, the clinician's IMC or PSI registration number, and an itemised description of the service. It is emailed automatically after payment and is accepted by Laya, VHI and Revenue.

Can I claim from my insurer and get tax relief?

Yes. Claim from your insurer first, then claim 20% tax relief through Revenue myAccount on the part of the fee that was not reimbursed.

Will my plan cover the full €950?

It depends on your plan. Laya reimburses a percentage that varies with scheme level; VHI applies session limits and an annual mental health maximum. Check with your insurer before booking. More questions →
